WBA Applauds Patrick Administration's Nomination of Judge Gants to SJC

BOSTON, MA – December 3, 2008 – The Women's Bar Association of Massachusetts (WBA) is very pleased with Governor Patrick’s most recent judicial nomination of Judge Ralph D. Gants to the Supreme Judicial Court. Judge Gants is an exceedingly qualified jurist, who has served the Commonwealth with distinction since his 1997 appointment to the Superior Court. His work in the Business Litigation Section and on the Rules Committee has enhanced the state court system and highlighted his strong abilities.

“Once again, Governor Patrick has nominated a qualified and deserving member of the judiciary to the state’s highest court,” said WBA President Kathy Jo Cook. “Judge Gants is well regarded among practitioners for his sharp legal skills and even temperament. His opinions are well reasoned and grounded in the rule of law. He will be greatly missed by practitioners in the Superior Court.”

The WBA congratulates Judge Gants on this worthy achievement and applauds Governor Patrick for his demonstrated commitment to advancing the finest members of the judiciary to the Commonwealth’s highest court as well as his ongoing effort to nominate judges who reflect the diversity of the citizens of the Commonwealth.

About the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts

Founded in 1978 by a group of activist women lawyers, the Women’s Bar Association is one of the oldest and largest bar associations in the country. Today, the organization boasts a membership of more than 1600 women lawyers, judges and law students across Massachusetts. The WBA is committed to the full and equal participation of women in the legal profession and in a just society. The WBA works to achieve this mission through committees and taskforces, and by developing and promoting a legislative agenda to address society’s most critical social and legal issues.  Other WBA activities include drafting amicus briefs, studying employment issues affecting women, encouraging women to enter the judiciary, recognizing the achievement of women in the law, and providing pro bono services to women in need through supporting its charitable sister organization, the Women’s Bar Foundation.
