March 14, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Kathy Jo Cook named
president of Women's Bar Association of Massachusetts as it celebrates 30 years BOSTON- March 14, 2008- Keches & Mallen, one of the state's largest plaintiff personal injury law firms, announced today that senior litigator Kathy Jo Cook has been named President of the Women's Bar Association (WBA) as they celebrate their 30th Anniversary. Ms. Cook's installation as President of the Women's Bar Association took place last night at the Omni Parker House in Boston. During her remarks, Ms. Cook announced her plan to further the goals of the organization. "It is not enough that some women have achieved success in our profession. Women are graduating from law school in equal numbers with men, but they are not advancing in equal numbers. And, this problem is not limited to the Boston law firms. We must challenge women across the entire state to join with us in our 30th year to change the culture of the practice of law. We must allow women, including those who choose to have children and families, to participate equally in the legal profession. We can make a difference, but we can do so only if we stand together." "Kathy Jo Cook is a woman whose boldness, tenacity and energy are contagious," commented Julia Huston, outgoing President of the WBA. "Kathy Jo is deeply committed to building the presence of the WBA outside of Boston, and continuing to advance the interests of women in all aspects of the legal profession. I believe we will see great things from the WBA under Kathy Jo's leadership in the coming year." Ms. Cook concentrates her practice in representing individuals injured as a result of medical or legal malpractice, defectively designed products, unsafe working conditions and unfair insurance practices. Keches & Mallen senior partner George Keches said of Kathy Jo's installation as WBA President, "We are proud and pleased that Kathy Jo has been named to this position. She is an outstanding lawyer and has a talent for working with lawyers and clients to achieve creative solutions to difficult problems." Named in 1999 by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as one of the top five "up and coming" lawyers in Massachusetts, she became the third lawyer ever to be inducted into its "HALL OF FAME" last September. She has been featured in the National Law Journal and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly for her work as Chair of the Judicial Administration Section Council of the Massachusetts Bar Association. Ms. Cook has been invited to lecture on a variety of legal issues, including medical malpractice and litigation techniques at Suffolk University Law School, Southern New England School of Law and the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education program. She has published in the area of evidence and has received several first place awards in national writing and trial competitions, including the Association of Trial Lawyers of America National Trial Competition. Ms. Cook has received an AV rating, the highest rating by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. This rating is given only to lawyers who have "Very High to Preeminent Legal Ability and who embrace Very High Professional Standards". Ms. Cook is an honors graduate of Suffolk University Law School. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Houston. She is licensed to practice before the courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Ms. Cook is a native of Mahomet, Illinois, where her parents, Clark and Ula Krutsinger, still reside. She arrived in Boston in 1992 after working for the Honorable Michael A. Andrews, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pasadena, Texas. Ms. Cook currently resides with her husband, Suffolk University Law Professor Timothy Wilton, and three of their eight children in South Natick, MA. About the Women's
