In 1982, the Women's Lunch Place (WLP) opened its doors, providing food, friendship, and resources to homeless and poor women and their children. In 1993, the Foundation partnered with the WLP providing the women with legal services. Women who are homeless, poor and often suffering from mental illness and/or substance abuse, cannot easily access legal advice and representation. The volunteer attorneys to the Project provide representation in multiple areas of law, including immigration, public benefits, health care, bankruptcy, housing, domestic violence, and criminal defense.
Volunteer attorneys give a great deal of time, energy and resources to ensure that the guests at the Women’s Lunch Place are represented with dignity, respect, and understanding. Through the Women’s Bar Foundation, the law firm of Holland & Knight generously donates legal services to the Women's Lunch Place Project. Additional volunteers are always welcome.
